My trip to Bradford on Avon on August 31st to read at The Swan Hotel was a really lovely evening out. It was a treat to hear organiser Dawn Gorman read her work and a pleasure to meet her and fellow-guest Rachel Curzon – a Faber New Poet whom I suspect we’ll hear a lot of in future years. Her multi-layered, resonant poetry is still reverberating in my head. It was good to catch up with fellow HappenStance poet Stephen Payne, too, and I particularly liked his sequence of shape poems (not quite what you might expect shape poems to be…). If you get the chance to hear Dawn, Rachel or Stephen, do grab it. Words & Ears takes place every month in Bradford on Avon and regularly attracts open mic poets from as far away as Bristol, Swindon, Salisbury and Winchester – details on Dawn‘s website.
