Reading in Portmoak, Fife
On Friday, July 8, I will be doing a poetry reading in aid of charity. The event, which will include a Q&A and last for approximately half an hour, will be held in the clubhouse at Scottish Gliding Centre from 6pm and is free to attend. It will be followed by a collection in support of Walking on Air, the Scottish charity enabling people with disabilities to soar like birds. The photo, by Jim Cook, shows one of their modified two-seater gliders on approach to land at Portmoak.
I’m delighted to be able to support Walking on Air like this. It’s lovely, too, to bring these gliding poems back to where some of them were inspired: the very first poem in the collection, Launchpoint, was written here. (I was a member of the club while studying creative writing at the University of St Andrews.) The poems I’ll be reading are from Only by Flying, published by the award-winning HappenStance Press, which is coincidentally based in Glenrothes, just up the road from the gliding centre.
Copies cost £5 and profits from all sales made on the evening will be donated to Walking on Air. If you would like to attend but are unfamiliar with the Scottish Gliding Centre, please make sure read the safety instructions before you visit.
