Metaphor as Gift
This logbook entry links to a lovely response to Only by Flying, from Charlotte Gann on the Sphinx website. “I begin to realise her flying can become my metaphor,” Charlotte writes. I couldn’t have hoped for anything more perceptive. The accompanying photograph is one I took while wave soaring in Scotland. It’s one of the “extraordinary sights” you might see if you trust your impulse to explore – “ a line that Charlotte chose from the poem Vantage Point. The poem was inspired partly by flights in lee wave. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be explaining more about the different conditions that gliders can use to soar (wave, thermal and ridge). In the meantime, thank you, Charlotte.
